soft overage On paid plans, hit your limit mid-run and nothing stops. Extra messages bill at $3.50 / 1,000 — a red build costs more than that. Free is the exception: no card on file, so receiving pauses at the cap. Separate from billing, each plan has a burst ceiling of 100 / 2,000 / 10,000 / 50,000 messages per day — beyond it senders get a transient SMTP 452 retry, never a charge. SMS is the exception to the exception: no overage exists on any plan — texts beyond the monthly SMS quota are dropped, full stop.

What counts as a message?
One email received by one inbox. Creating inboxes is free on every plan — spin up a fresh fixture per test and let TTLs clean up. What's capped is how many are active at once: 25 on Free, 250 on Solo, 1,000 on Team, 5,000 on Scale.
Can you send email for my tests?
No. MailFixture is receive-only, on purpose. Your app under test does the sending; we catch, parse, and hold. It also means our IPs can never end up on a spam blocklist — and neither can yours because of us.
Do plans include SMS testing?
Paid plans do. Solo includes 1 dedicated US phone number and 100 texts/mo, Team 3 and 500, Scale 10 and 2,000 — Free includes none. Numbers are receive-only US local numbers, and unlike email there is no SMS overage: the monthly SMS quota is a hard stop on every plan, and texts beyond it are dropped.
Can my AI agent use mailfixture?
Yes. mailfixture is a remote MCP server at mailfixture.com/mcp, included on every plan — Free too. Connect Claude Code or any MCP client with your API key and the agent creates inboxes, waits for OTPs, and reads messages by itself. The setup is one command; see the MCP quickstart in the docs.
What happens if I stop paying?
You drop to Free: your domains stay verified for 30 days, your data ages out per retention rules, and nobody calls you. Upgrades and cancellations are self-serve through Stripe.
